Watch Matt Huett and Paul T. Corrigan’s discussion of Naomi S. Baron’s book Words on Screen: The Fate of Reading in a Digital World (Oxford UP, 2015). The book offers an in-depth and information-packed look at the changing technologies of books and ebooks and the implications thereof for readers and for reading. Baron cares deeply about securing a place for deep reading. Does digital reading endanger deep reading? It’s possible. But there are also possible ways to read deeply and electronically. The book (and perhaps the conversation below) offers valuable information and insights into a social change that has the potential to profoundly affect college students as they read or do not read for courses.
